A Shivaji Memorial is being planned to be built in the middle of the
Arabian Sea. The whole project has raised questions because it costs 3600
crores to build the memorial which in turn can be distributed for other worthy
and useful purposes. Moreover the fishermen is also on the verge of being
affected by this project as the construction of the memorial can result in
huge loss of marine life.

Very good introduction! It gives a reader an idea about the entire thing. Good job
ReplyDeleteInstead of spending so much in building a memorial i think it can be spend on something else that is useful. They promise to give the fishermen other jobs but will they be satisfied with a job given to them. They cannot force them to do a job.
ReplyDeleteIt might seem pretty pointless on the surface that they're spending such a huge amount of money on that memorial which is serves no purpose whatsoever. But like always, there's some hidden agenda beneath this deal. Modi isn't some boy-next-door man who does stupid things. Like Bhaskar said, when the Indian govt allowed an Australian company to mine coal in Barkagaon, a deal was signed in Queensland simultaneously. I feel they should probe more into this deal, scrape whatever information they can get. Environment at the cost of tourism - definitely not the first incident. Happened to the root bridges in Meghalaya.
ReplyDeleteProviding fishermen other jobs is not the solution as it would not be something they enjoy doing or are specialised in as a profession. i think spending so much money on something as useless as a statue is pointless. Especially not at the cost of the environment.
